With its history, lively night life and brand new shopping centre, there’s plenty to do if you’re dating in Bristol or planning to spend a long weekend in the city and surrounding area.  Here’s our pick of Bristol’s romantic restaurants.

Eco-Friendly Green Dining
Bordeaux Quay opened on Bristol’s harbourside less than three years ago and has stirred up a fantastic reputation for itself, mainly due to its superb food and admirable ethos of having minimal impact on the environment. It describes itself as “much more than a place to eat” and with a restaurant, brasserie, bar, cookery school, bakery and deli all under one roof it certainly lives up to this claim.  It even produces its own water on site! It’s a female-centric film about food, love and changing your life, with a star performance from Meryl Streep.

Julia Child (Meryl Streep) is a woman who altered the way America cooks, but in 1948 she was just an American woman living in France.  Her husband’s job had brought them to Paris and with her indefatigable spirit, she yearned for something to do. (more…)

From the moody and mysterious to the darn-right silly, here are three films about love that you and your date can curl up on the sofa to.  Plus we have competition copies to give away!

Two Lovers
Two Lovers is a classical romantic drama set in the insular world of Brighton Beach, Brooklyn with an outstanding performance by Joaquin Phoenix.  It’s a moody, mysterious and gritty film that explores love, romance and the potential tragedy of wanting it all – so if you are looking for an idealized Hollywood romantic drama, this definitely isn’t it!

Today we’re talking about the sad news that actor Patrick Swayze has lost his two year battle against pancreatic cancer, passing away peacefully at his home in Los Angeles yesterday surrounded by his family.

The fifty-seven-year-old actor will always be remembered for his star performance as dance teacher Johnny Castle in the 1987 film Dirty Dancing.  As a classically trained dancer thanks to his professional choreographer mother, it was a role he had almost been destined to play and one which he received a Golden Globe nomination for.  The film made $300 million and Swayze reputedly turned down $7 million to star in a sequel because he didn’t want to be type-cast. If you’re dating in London, whisk your date to Regent Street on Sunday 27th September for an exclusive, free Madness gig – you can guarantee the atmosphere will be electric!

It’s the first time the iconic street has been closed for a concert, but this is a triple celebration.   London’s shopping Mecca is celebrating 180 years of history, its Absolute Radio’s first birthday, and Madness are 30! (Yes, a few of us shuddered at that fact here at JustSingles.com;  some of us remember their early years too!)

Regent Street will be partying in style all day with free live performances on the main stage including a rock ‘n’ roll birthday bash hosted by Absolute Radio Breakfast Show DJ Christian O’Connell and Hometime DJ, Geoff Lloyd.  There will also be a fashion show, stilt walkers, roaming street performers, a Ferris wheel and two giant Birthday cakes made of thousands of cup cakes that will be served at 3pm. Naked Body Sushi

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Naked-Body-SushiWe’re talking about an unusual dining experience that’s hitting London until March 2010, and that’s sushi served on naked women.

Ok, it’s not really date material unless you can blow a cool £250 per person on the meal, but it’s certainly got us talking here at JustSingles.com.

Flash Sushi is the first authentic Nyotaimori dining experience to be available in London.  Nyotaimori roughly translates as ‘female body presentation’ and it’s the traditional Japanese art of eating sushi off a naked female body.

For centuries this rare and shadowy practice has been the sole preserve of Japan’s very elite, but recently, celebrities such as Tom Cruise, George Clooney, Pierce Brosnan, Julianne Moore and Harrison Ford have all enjoyed a seat at the Nyotaimori table. (more…)

Now you can collect your online shopping from your local pub!

Free parcel collection from your local pub?  What a brilliant idea!

We love this fantastic new initiative from Scottish & Newcastle.  Not only will the days of arriving home to that bit of red card on the door mat be over, but you won’t have to queue at the sorting office ever again!

Instead you can pop down to your local, long after those lovely chaps at the Post Office have gone home, pick up your package and perhaps have a cheeky pint to boot. (more…)
