Crack open the cider this British Food Fortnight

No matter where you’re dating, there’s a British Food Fortnight event taking place near you, so plan a day out  with your date and enjoy the best of our home-grown produce.

New York food critic Gael Greene once said; “Great food is like great sex; the more you have the more you want.”  And you can have your fill of the best of British produce as British Food Fortnight gets underway on September 19th.

There are hundreds of events taking place all over the UK, so whether you’re a fully fledged foodie or someone who simply enjoys tasty local food, there’s plenty to whet your appetite.   Here’s a run down of a few of the events taking place and you can find your own closer to home at the British Food Fortnight website. Parma ham wrapped scallops with Marsala and sage

Parma ham wrapped scallops with Marsala and sage

Dazzle your date with this simple yet rather impressive looking scallop recipe – just double check they aren’t allergic to seafood first!

This classic combination of scallops wrapped in cured Parma ham and cooked in Marsala looks stylish, tastes delicious and is very easy to cook, so it’s a winning dish if you’ve suggested dinner at yours!

If you’ve never cooked scallops before, the only thing to bear in mind is that they can become chewy if they’re over-cooked, so get the rice ready first and quickly pan-fry the scallops just before serving.   For a smart starter or a decadent light lunch,  serve the scallops over a green salad and forget the rice. Nearby is Guy’s Restaurant and Bar, run by local chef Guy Cowan who is now back in Glasgow after spending twenty years feeding Hollywood A-listers through his catering business.

Jamie Oliver’s Italian has opened in Brighton not far from the town’s famous Lanes, another branch has also opened this week in Canary Wharf in London. In Brighton and Clapham Junction you will find his Recipease shop where you can learn how to cook great food with your date – we love the idea of doing this on a date! (more…)
