Psychotherapist and life-coach Marisa Peer shows you how to date with confidence!

Marisa Peer has worked as a psychotherapist, hypnotherapist, life coach and behavioural expert for over twenty-five years.  You might recognize her as the therapist on Supersize vs Superskinny and Celebrity Fit Club UK, or from her appearances on This Morning, Newsnight, Sky News and GMTV.

Her latest book Ultimate Confidence: The Secrets to Feeling Great About Yourself Every Day is out now, so we decided to catch up with her to find out what her ultimate dating confidence tricks are – and here’s what she had to say.

Dealing With First Date Nerves

“Men find confident women very attractive, so keep that in mind when you are meeting someone for the first time,” Marisa says.  “Don’t go to a date thinking; ‘Will they like me?’  Instead reverse your thought patterns and think; ‘Will I like them?  Will they be good enough for me? Will I find them attractive?’  If you go on a date thinking I’m not good enough, you’ll come across that way.  Remember, what is expected by you tends to be realized, so change your expectations!”

Be Mysterious

“Guys like women to have an air of mystery, so don’t give too much away on a first date,” she says.  “Men really dislike the lay it all out on the table stuff, so keep some of it back if you want to keep him coming back!”

Past Relationships

“When you constantly talk about old hurts or a previous relationship, it’s like picking the scab off a wound; it will never heal, so get some help to resolve past issues.  If a conversation does come up about a previous relationship, don’t go on about your ex or discuss any details.  Just casually say it didn’t work out,” suggests Marisa.

“To be happy and have inner peace we must be able to forgive the past, live in the present and feel excited about the future.  If you haven’t forgiven the past, it might be worth talking to someone so you can move forwards with a positive attitude.”

Be Body Confident

“Body confidence is easy because all you need to remember is that men really don’t see the lumps and bumps!  I remember when I was with other guys in the past, they’d describe my body back to me and I’d think to myself, I can assure you it isn’t like that.  But guys don’t notice these things or your cellulite!  They are just happy to have a warm, soft body to cuddle up to.”

Have Sexual Confidence

“When I was living in LA I had some Spanish girl friends and before they went on a night out they would pleasure themselves beforehand.  When I asked them about it, they told me it was so they weren’t tempted to go home with a man at the end of the night just because they were feeling horny!  People who are sexually satisfied have an air of confidence about them, and you could see it because the men were just swarming around them, so it certainly worked for them!”
