The best photos have eye contact, show you smiling and are head 'n' shoulder shots
Pick the right photo for your dating profile, and you’ll be inundated with dates!
It’s obvious (and we hate to say it!) but once you’ve joined a dating site, a decent profile photo is a must. But you’d be surprised how many people choose one which doesn’t do them any justice, or decide not to bother adding one at all!
A photo is the first thing everyone notices when they’re dating online, so make sure your picture is a good ‘un! Here’s our advice on selecting the best photo for your dating profile.
Head ‘n’ shoulders
You want a good-sized, clear head ‘n’ shoulders shot of you smiling and looking into the camera so everyone can see just how gorgeous you really are! Eyes and a smile are really important so avoid full-length shots because others won’t be able to see your face properly, and avoid the moody and mysterious look because approachable is the name of the game. Oh, and try not to hide behind hats, sunglasses or your scuba gear – add these pictures as some of your additional photos instead.
You, and only you!
You want your main photo – the one that appears when others search – to clearly portray you and only you, so don’t add a picture of you with your children, you and your best mate, or you in a morning suit with the ex cropped out!
Opt for a plain background
A busy background distracts from you, and no one is interested in seeing what your wallpaper or fireplace is like! So make sure you’re standing against a plain wall or outside so that you’re the only thing the eye is drawn to.
Ask a friend to help
If you don’t have the perfect photo to hand, ask a friend to help you so that you aren’t holding the camera and peering into the lens at the same time (rarely a good look!). Why not plan a night out with friends, get ready at yours and then take some photos before you leave when you’re looking and feeling fab? A friend can also help you decide which photo to upload too.
Add extra photos
You can add 9 extra photos to your dating profile, so here you can show you and your mates, you surfing, you looking cool in your shades (or scuba gear!) and whatever else you’d like to share.
And finally never think ‘oh that picture will do’ because if the photo doesn’t do you justice, you are probably missing out on several possible dates.
