We were astonished and amazed to hear about Eddie Izzard’s seven week challenge in aid of Sports Relief. The 47-year-old comedian is running thirty miles a day through all four nations, taking in Cardiff, Belfast and Edinburgh on the way!

The cross-dressing comedian says the idea had been bubbling away for the last ten years, although he revealed he’d done just four weeks of training prior to setting out from London’s Trafalgar Square at 6am on Monday July 27th.

He’s accompanied by an ice cream van that dishes out free cones in hope of a donation, and an entourage consisting of two tents, a camper van and a sports therapist, whom we think he’ll be needing!

So far he has been serenaded in various ways en route. 50-year-old Mo Bennie who runs Granny Mo’s cafe on the banks of the Kennet and Avon Canal, organised a welcoming party wearing her shiny black stilettos especially for the comedian.  Su Stafford from Wadworth Brewery’s visitor centre greeted him with a pint of Wadworth 6X, and you can see the banner two children in Wales made for him out of an old cereal packet on his Twitter page.

He is already sporting his first blister but says that isn’t going to stop him. And whilst speaking to Scott Mills on the Radio 1 Breakfast Show he asked that people offer their encouragement when they drive past him with a honk of their horn. He can certainly have a honk or two from us – go Eddie!
