Crabshakk in Glasgow serves fish and seafood at very reasonable prices and was named ‘New Restaurant of the Year 2009’ at the Scottish Chef Awards. Definitely a place to check out if you live in Glasgow.
Nearby is Guy’s Restaurant and Bar, run by local chef Guy Cowan who is now back in Glasgow after spending twenty years feeding Hollywood A-listers through his catering business.
Jamie Oliver’s Italian has opened in Brighton not far from the town’s famous Lanes, another branch has also opened this week in Canary Wharf in London. In Brighton and Clapham Junction you will find his Recipease shop where you can learn how to cook great food with your date – we love the idea of doing this on a date!
There are over 120 Asian inspired dishes to choose from at the Cosmo in Cardiff Bay – a new addition to the Welsh capital’s restaurant scene having opened in June.
As the trend for locally sourced food gathers pace, The Farm Collective has just opened in London’s EC1 serving locally sourced food from small British farms.
Outside of London, Croots Farm Shop in Derbyshire has just celebrated its first anniversary. You can eat in or take it away, but the idyllic farmyard setting coupled with the Shire Horses who live on the farm make this just the place for a romantic lunch on a glorious sunny day.
Eating Out In London
The Evening Standard calls El Pirata de Tapas in London’s Westbourne Grove ‘a cut above the rest’, and they offer lunch time specials for £9.
If the sun is shining, head to the Boundary in East London and enjoy classic British and French cuisine on its rooftop terrace, or a roast rib of beef on Sundays.
For a glamorous dining experience opt for Pearl Restaurant and Bar in High Holborn, which is set in the former banking halls of the Pearl assurance company – but remember to bring your credit card!
Lemonia serves Greek food in NW1 and boasts Jude Law, Ewan McGregor, Gwyneth Paltrow, Daniel Craig and Gordon Brown among its customers.
Swedish food is also making its mark across London with Fika on Brick Lane securing several headlines in recent months for its sweet or savoury waffles and grilled salmon served on an oak-smoked board.
The seafood at Deep in Imperial Wharf, run by Swedish husband and wife duo comes straight from Lake Vanerne in Sweden, whilst Madsen in South Kensington holds Swedish Tuesdays with pan-fried herring and other Scandinavian specials.
And if you are looking for something completely off the wall, why not try Sushinho in London’s King’s Road? It serves Japanese and Brazilian fusion cuisine, which is apparently all the rage in Brazil at the moment because Brazil has the largest Japanese population outside of Japan living there. With Cassava chips, Sushi rolls, lunch time Tapas, plus half price Sushi Mondays and Tango Sundays, it could be just the place for an enjoyable and different date.
One lucky lady who works at JustSingles.com got taken for a romantic meal in London at La Poulet au Pot, a French restaurant in a lovely area by Pimlico green. Apparently it’s been voted the most romantic restaurant in London many times by restaurant guides and she told us the whole evening was fabulous! The ambience is very rustic, dinner by candlelight, lovely French waiters and great food and wine – what more could you want? We all agreed it would definitely be a bit too much for a first date though – save it for when you know you really like each other!
